Hide a few of your child’s favorite star wars lego toys (or other small toys) in an ice cube mixture. Mix together the baking soda and water in a bowl.
Once mixed, pack the baking soda mixture around the star wars lego toy and in the ice cube tray. Freeze for approximately 3 hours.
Place one of the baking soda ice cubes in a bowl. Have your child help you add vinegar to the ice cube and watch the toy slowly emerge.
Older Kids
Have them help you measure the ingredients out and mix the ingredients into a bowl. You could even take a step back and hand them written step by step instructions.
Younger Kids
Focus on making this experiment fun and exciting. This activity is exciting and reveals a toy at the end, so this is great for attention and teaching cause and effect.
Advanced Fine Motor Challenge
Experiment with different fine motor tools to add the vinegar to the ice cubes. You can switch it up by using a spray bottle, an eye dropper, a spoon to scoop vinegar, or a straw (using your finger at the end of the straw to suction the vinegar in the straw)
