Step 1: Find The Right Materials

You can start out by watching a short video clip, listening to a song, or reading a Dr. Seuss book with your child. Great materials can be found here!

Print off one of the color/paint by numbers and have your child follow the steps to complete the pictures using crayons, paint, colored pencils, or markers.

For younger children, thicker and shorter marker and crayons are easier for younger kids to work with and help facilitates using a mature grasp.

Older Kids

A variety of printable color/paint by number are offered. If your child needs more of a challenge present a more challenging variations including ones in which one has to complete simple math problems to decode which number correlates with each color. Additionally pictures with more numbers will be more challenging as they are more intricate in detail and size.

Advanced Fine Motor Challenge

In addition to using a paint brush you can also cut up small sponges and use the sponge to paint in the designated areas. This also is a great way to work on grasping small items with your fingers and introduce working with other sensory mediums other than crayons or markers.
