November’s Occupational Therapy Workouts for Kids

Occupational Therapy Workouts # 1 – Fine Motor:

Color by number- this activity is both fun and an excellent way to address many fine motor and attention skills.  It will help increase grasp strength, fine motor endurance, and gives the opportunity to teach coloring in the lines.

Occupational Therapy Workouts # 2 – Gross Motor:

Dancing- is a great form of exercise that addresses imitation of motor movements and motor planning/coordination.  Pairing songs with movement helps increase participation in gross motor tasks as well as motor memory.

Occupational Therapy Workouts # 3 – Self Care:

Fine motor strengthening activities- By strengthening the muscles in your hands it will improve one’s ability to don and doff clothing items (socks, shoes, pants).  The following activities will help exercise the muscles in your hand: pulling velcro of varying resistances, peeling/ripping up tape, and rubber band stretch.

Occupational Therapy Workouts # 4 – Sensory:

Following a recipe or step by step directions-  Multi- step activities such as crafts and preparing simple snacks are great for working on sequencing and attention skills.  In OT we love to make slime and other projects/crafts using written and visual instruction sheets.
